STAY CONNECTED

HI,
I'm Lara. The designer behind Briars House. I create patterns that encourage creativity, exploration, and a confident use of color. Patterns that help you make something not just beautiful, but meaningful. Bold colors. Graphic shapes. Modern lines mixed with the comfort only quilts can bring.
Quilting isn't just a hobby. It's about connection. It's the art of turning small pieces into something whole. My goal? To help you create quilts that feel like you -- bold, expressive, and full of contrast and character.
MY (SORTA) QUILTING RULES
-
Start With Colors That Make You Feel Something. Build From There
I’m drawn to bold, energetic colors -- think chili pepper red, school bus yellow, and vivid magenta. These shades show up again and again in my work, and they’re often the starting point for my fabric pulls. I almost always begin with one or two of these base colors and build my palette around them.

Start With What You Have
I don’t keep a big fabric stash. Whenever I can, I pull from scraps or leftovers from past projects. Part of it’s practical (limited space is real) but it also feels like a small way to be more thoughtful and sustainable with what I bring into my creative space. Bonus points if I can find quality fabric at the thrift store!

Planning is Optional. Playing is Not
A few years ago, I challenged myself to always have a side project in progress to keep on top my scraps and quickly fell in love with improv quilting. I love sewing without a plan. In fact, I didn’t use patterns for years because, aside from pulling fabric and playing with color, I don't find the planning part particularly fun. (Ironic, I know.)
